Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy – Deluxe Edition is a third-person action-adventure game where players take the role of Star-Lord, also known as Peter Quill, who leads the Guardians of the Galaxy. The Deluxe Edition includes the full base game plus two early-unlock outfits for Star-Lord — Sun-Lord and City-Lord — along with a digital download of the original video game soundtrack titled “The Hits” and a digital mini artbook called “The Art of the Game.”

Players control Star-Lord directly and use Element Blasters, jet boot-powered dropkicks, and tag-team attacks with the other Guardians. The other four Guardians — Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot — fight alongside Star-Lord and can be commanded to use their own signature attacks during combat. The game features an original story that is separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, with players crossing paths with both new characters and unique versions of iconic Marvel characters.

The game has over 40 alternate outfits that can be found inside outfit boxes hidden in various locations across the game’s chapters. Star-Lord has thirteen outfits in total, while Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot each have eight outfits. The Sun-Lord and City-Lord outfits included in the Deluxe Edition are early unlocks — players who buy the standard edition can still get them by completing the main story. Buying any digital version of the game also separately unlocks a Social-Lord outfit for Star-Lord.

The game won the Best Soundtrack Award at The Steam Awards 2021. The music in the game includes an all-star 1980s mixtape of licensed songs. Players can also find outfit information inside the menus, where the game displays the original comics issue number, writers, and artists connected to each outfit’s source material.

The game carries a Teen (T) rating from the ESRB for violence, mild blood, mild suggestive themes, language, and use of alcohol. It uses Denuvo Anti-Tamper as third-party DRM, and players must agree to a separate Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy EULA before playing.
