DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined is a role-playing game where you play as a fisherman’s son living on Estard, the only island remaining in your known existence. You wonder if more lands exist beyond your small kingdom. While investigating the Shrine of Mysteries with your childhood friends, you discover fragments that transport you back in time.

Time travel reveals a terrible truth. An evil force has sealed away entire continents from existence. You must restore these lost lands by traveling between past and present. The game tells its story using separate episodes that connect into one larger tale. The plot has been shortened compared to the original version to be more accessible.

The game uses diorama visuals designed by Akira Toriyama where locations look like detailed miniature models. Characters can change jobs called vocations, which determine their abilities in battle. The Moonlighting mechanic allows you to assign two vocations simultaneously, giving access to skills from both jobs at once.

Combat happens in turns where you command your party members. You can adjust battle speed or enable auto-battle features. Vocational perks provide special abilities like powerful attacks or support actions. When your party is stronger than enemies on the field, you can strike monsters before battle starts to instantly defeat them without entering combat.

The game includes optional content like the battle arena where you can participate in additional fights. Costume items change character appearance without affecting stats. A demo version is available to try before purchasing the full game.
