📚 Cuphead Deluxe Edition Overview

Cuphead Deluxe Edition is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. The visuals and audio are created using the same techniques as cartoons from the 1930s — traditional hand-drawn cel animation, watercolour backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Players can take the role of Cuphead or Mugman in single player or local co-op mode.

The story follows Cuphead and Mugman as they try to pay back a debt to the Devil by collecting the contracts of other debtors. Players traverse the Inkwell Isles, acquiring new weapons, learning powerful super moves, and finding hidden secrets. The game has 42 Steam Achievements and supports Steam Trading Cards and Steam Cloud saves.

The Delicious Last Course is the paid DLC expansion for the game. In it, Cuphead and Mugman are joined by a new playable character called Ms. Chalice, who becomes available whenever a player uses the Astral Cookie charm. Ms. Chalice has a modified moveset that includes double jumps, parry dashes, and an invincible roll — abilities that Cuphead and Mugman do not have. Once unlocked, Ms. Chalice can also be played in the original base game, not just in the DLC.

The DLC takes place on a new Inkwell Isle with five distinct areas, including a medieval town, a mountainous area, an icy tundra, a desert, and an aeroplane hangar. The DLC introduces new weapons, new charms, and a new cast of large, screen-filling boss fights. Completing bounties in the DLC is connected to a new story about helping Chef Saltbaker with a quest tied to the Legendary Chalice. The DLC adds 14 new achievements on top of the 42 in the base game.

The game won Best Indie Game, Best Art Direction, and Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards. It also won Best Soundtrack at the DICE Awards, and Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Animation, and Original Music Composition at the same ceremony. The game carries an E10+ rating from the ESRB for Fantasy Violence, Mild Language, and Use of Alcohol and Tobacco.
