SHE WAS 98 is a first-person psychological horror PC game. The player takes on the role of a young man who is the grandson of an elderly 98-year-old grandmother. She lives alone in an old and run-down apartment. Her other relatives have stopped visiting her, and doctors have noted signs of senile dementia. The grandson arrives at the apartment to look after her, though his reasons for doing so may not be entirely selfless — there is a hint that he may also be hoping to inherit the apartment after her death.

At first, everything appears normal. The grandson follows a routine of giving her medicines on time and spending quiet evenings with her. However, things begin to feel unsettling very quickly. The grandmother starts behaving in strange ways. She sometimes stares at the grandson without recognising him, and other times she looks at him as though she sees someone completely different. At night, the player hears footsteps coming from behind the wall, but it is unclear whether it is truly the grandmother or something else.

The story of SHE WAS 98 is about fear, selfishness, and consequences. As the player continues, the line between who is the victim and who is the danger becomes unclear. A hidden secret slowly comes closer to being revealed with every action taken inside the apartment.

The game is a walking simulator with a strong story. It has realistic 3D graphics, high-quality sound design, and a tense, pressurising indoor setting. The game is single-player and contains mature content, including violence, making it suitable only for adult players.
