Armored Brigade II Complete is a real-time tactical war strategy PC game set during the Cold War period, covering the years 1965 to 1991. The game is played from a top-down view on large maps based on real terrain data taken from satellite and historical sources.

The base game lets players command military forces from seven nations — the USA, Soviet Union, West Germany, East Germany, United Kingdom, Finland, and Poland. The game has a large unit database with over 1,000 ground and air units, all modelled on actual Cold War military equipment. Players control tanks, armoured vehicles, infantry squads, helicopters, and aircraft across big battlefield maps. The battle scale ranges from platoon level up to several battalions at the same time.

The game uses a pausable real-time format, which means players can stop the action at any time to plan and issue orders. A command and control system is in place where orders take time to reach units, depending on training level, distance from the headquarters, and radio communication. This makes battlefield management very realistic.

Weather, lighting, and time of day all change during battles and affect how well units can see and fight. The game also has support for artillery, close air support, anti-air defences, and air-to-air combat. A skirmish generator lets players quickly create battles with custom settings across different seasons and locations.

The Scandinavia expansion, included in Armored Brigade II Complete, adds Sweden, Norway, and Denmark as three new playable armies. It also includes over 500 new ground and air units, new maps of Sweden and Denmark at 30×30 km size, a Swedish branching campaign, a Danish linear campaign, and several standalone missions.
