The Succession of Changing Kings is a kingdom management simulation and strategy game set in a medieval world. The player takes the role of a ruler tasked with saving a failing kingdom. The lands have decayed, the fields are covered in weeds, trade routes have gone silent, and people are leaving the kingdom. The player must rebuild and manage this struggling domain.

The game is structured into four acts, with each act lasting 25 turns, giving a total of 100 turns to complete the game. Each act tells its own contained story that leads toward the player’s coronation. Within the four acts, the game has over 200 quests and events, and some of these are only unlocked during subsequent playthroughs.

Players must construct buildings, hire subjects, and manage relationships with four key groups: the nobility, the army, the church, and the commoners. Poor relations with any of these groups can lead to serious consequences, including the death of the king. The game features more than 120 ways for the king to die, which makes resource and relationship management very important.
