Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse is a 2D action game that combines Metroidvania and roguelite gameplay. The player travels with the help of a cursed hat and fights using various types of magic. Dungeons like ruins and botanical gardens are auto-generated and change with every new run, so no two playthroughs are the same.

One of the most unique features in Never Grave: The Witch and The Curse is the possession mechanic. The player can use the cursed hat to possess enemies and then use their special abilities during combat. This opens up new ways to attack and move in battle. Players can also learn new actions such as double-jump from collected artefacts, which help in reaching previously inaccessible areas.

Between dungeon runs, players return to a ruined village. Materials collected inside dungeons are used to clear rubble, construct new buildings, and grow crops in the fields. Players can also cook food and use skill trees to become stronger before the next run.
