Nocturnal is a single-player 2D action-platformer game. The player takes the role of Ardeshir, a soldier of the Enduring Flame. He returns to his homeland, Nahran, after many years away. A mysterious Mist has appeared and thrown the island into chaos. Ardeshir must use his flaming sword and special abilities to confront the mysteries of the Mist and free Nahran.

The core mechanic of the game is fire-based combat. Ardeshir wields a flaming sword that can repel a dynamically generated Mist. The Mist reacts to the flames of the sword. Players can collect ash by defeating enemies and exploring the island. This ash can be offered at Phoenix statues found in the game. In return, players gain new skills and bonuses that are important for survival. The island of Nahran is compact and offers a focused experience built around this single fire concept. The total playtime is around three hours.
