MX vs ATV Legends – Icon Edition is a PC off-road racing game where players race on motocross bikes, ATVs, and UTVs across large open environments. The game has a career mode in which a player’s sponsor relationships and invitational event access depend on the path they take while competing. Players can race against up to 16 others online or use 2-player split-screen on the same machine.

The game includes a Trails mode that focuses on high-intensity outdoor racing with varied terrain. This mode is separate from the standard race tracks and requires riders to adjust their riding style to suit the course. The physics model in MX vs ATV Legends simulates berms and ruts, allowing riders to use the terrain when cornering rather than racing on a flat surface.

Riders can customise their character and vehicles using licensed parts and gear from real manufacturers in the off-road industry. The game has over 53 DLC packs available, which include annual Track Passes and branded vehicle packs from companies such as Honda, Yamaha, KTM, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Husqvarna, GASGAS, and Triumph. Licensed championship content from events like the AMA Pro Motocross Championship and Monster Energy Supercross Championship has also been released as separate DLC packs for multiple years.

Season 5 of the game introduced several new features including Advanced Replay, Photo Mode, an Overhead Map, and a Server Browser. Time-Based Penalties were also introduced in Season 5, replacing the instant reset mechanic that was previously triggered when a rider cut a corner.
