Once Upon A KATAMARI is a 3D action rolling game and a new entry in the Katamari Damacy series. The story begins when the King accidentally crushes the Earth, the Moon, and several planets while playing with a mysterious scroll. To fix this mistake, the player must roll a katamari across various time periods and collect objects to rebuild the stars in the sky.

The game takes players across historical eras including the Jurassic Era, the Ice Age, and historic Japan. A new support tool called the magnet is introduced in this game, which can pull nearby objects toward the katamari during rolling.

Players can take the role of The Prince or select from 68 cousins and other family members. Each character can be customised by changing colours and facial features to create original looks.
