Maelstrom: The Battle for Earth Begins Enhanced is a real-time strategy game that happens in 2050 on an Earth devastated by ecological disasters and nuclear war. Fifty years of conflict have submerged most of the planet under water. Humanity has split into two groups: the Remnants are urban guerilla fighters, and the Ascension are technologically advanced survivors. During their war, a third force arrives – the Hai-Genti, an alien race facing extinction who invade Earth.

You command one of three factions. The Remnants use guerilla tactics and salvaged equipment. The Ascension employ advanced technology with units that morph between different forms – ground vehicles can transform into aircraft, stationary turrets, or long-range artillery. The Hai-Genti are entirely biological creatures engineered for specific combat roles, with no mechanical vehicles.

The game features environmental manipulation as a core mechanic. You can terraform terrain by creating valleys, carving lakes, freezing water, melting ice, summoning tornadoes, and controlling wind. Weather and terrain directly impact combat effectiveness. All environments are fully destructible.

Resources come from three sources: survivor compounds, water pumps, and solar energy. Water has multiple uses including healing Hai-Genti units and providing speed boosts during combat. You can also directly control hero units in third-person perspective during missions.

The Enhanced version includes support for modern screen resolutions up to 4K, improved game balance, stable performance on multi-core processors, and a built-in modding toolkit. The game provides multiple campaign perspectives as you complete missions from different faction viewpoints.
