RESIDENT EVIL 2 / BIOHAZARD RE:2 Deluxe Edition is a complete rebuild of the original 1998 Resident Evil 2 game, built from the ground up using Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine. A deadly virus engulfs Raccoon City in September of 1998, turning the population into flesh-eating zombies. Players take control of rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy, who is on his first day on the job, and college student Claire Redfield, who arrives in the city searching for her brother.

Both Leon and Claire have separate playable campaigns, so players can see the story from two different perspectives. The game is played from an over-the-shoulder camera view, which is a change from the fixed camera angles of the original 1998 version. Players explore the corridors of the Raccoon City Police Department, collect items found in the environment, and fight to stay alive against the zombie hordes.

Zombies in the game react in real time to bullets and show visible damage on their bodies as they are shot. This wet gore effect is powered by the RE Engine and makes every bullet feel consequential when fighting the undead. A mysterious and relentless figure known as Mr. X also pursues both Leon and Claire inside the RPD, appearing suddenly and tracking the player across multiple areas of the building.

The Deluxe Edition includes the base game along with an Extra DLC Pack containing seven bonus items. Leon gets two extra costumes, the Arklay Sheriff outfit and the Noir outfit. Claire receives three extra costumes, namely the Military, Noir, and Elza Walker outfits. The pack also includes the Deluxe Weapon called the Samurai Edge, Albert Model, and an Original Ver. Soundtrack Swap that replaces the in-game music with audio from the 1998 original.

The Samurai Edge handgun included in the Deluxe Edition is a special model based on the one belonging to Albert Wesker, a character from the Resident Evil series. The Original Ver. Soundtrack Swap option is a separate item that players can activate to play the game with the classic 1998 music in place of the newly recorded audio. These bonus items are all tied to the specific content of this Deluxe Edition and are not part of the standard version of the game.
