Alien Shooter 2 – New Era is a single-player isometric shooter on PC set about 50 years after an alien invasion that has turned the planet into a desert. The few human survivors live in colonies hidden in abandoned cities and subways. A lone hero receives an SOS signal and sets out to investigate, fighting monsters across new locations that were not in any earlier game in the series.

The game has 9 types of weapons that players collect and use to fight large numbers of monsters. It also has a classic character levelling system carried over from the original Alien Shooter games. Players manage an in-game economy and inventory as they move from one linear mission to the next. The plot follows a straight path without branching, which is a deliberate design choice to match the structure of the 2003 original.

The game includes a Survival mode that was improved compared to earlier versions in the series. In this mode, the player must hold out against monsters arriving in waves without the protection of mission checkpoints. The main campaign takes players to a desert, an abandoned city, and underground corridors inside MAGMA research centres.

Alien Shooter 2 – New Era was built specifically for players who missed the style of the original Alien Shooter from 2003. It uses a new protagonist who is separate from the characters in Alien Shooter 2 – The Legend, which was released in 2020 with a global map and crafting. New Era drops those features and returns to a linear, corridor-style structure. The monsters in the game include both old enemy types from the 2003 original and new creatures that had never appeared in any earlier PC game in the Alien Shooter series.
