Schizm: Mysterious Journey is set in the year 2083, where players are thrust into an enigmatic adventure on the alien planet Argilus. Ten months prior, the first humans landed on Argilus, discovering deserted cities, towns, and industrial installations. The eerie abandonment of these places, with unlocked doors and unfinished meals, mirrors the historical mystery of the Mary Celeste, a ship found adrift in the Atlantic in 1872.

In this game, players control two members of the Earth supply vessel Angel, sent to check on the science teams stationed on Argilus. However, upon arrival, they find the science teams have vanished without a trace. As their own ship systems begin to fail, the players must abandon ship and navigate the mysterious environment of Argilus to uncover the fate of the missing teams.

The game features living ships and floating cities, adding to the intrigue of the deserted alien landscape. Players must explore these areas, piecing together clues to understand what happened to the inhabitants and the science teams.
