Diplomacy is Not an Option is a base-building real-time strategy game set in a medieval fantasy world. You play as a lord whose king has spent all the kingdom’s money and caused an economic crisis. Now the peasants are angry about unfair taxes, and they are marching toward your castle in massive numbers.

The game puts you against hordes of over 25,000 enemies at once. You must build walls and fortifications to hold them back. You also need to raise armies, manage your economy, and use engineering to keep your defenses strong. Magic is also part of your toolkit, including a spell that works during active pause.

Maps are procedurally generated, so no two playthroughs look the same. The game has four modes: Endless Mode, Story Campaign, Challenge Mode, and Sandbox Mode. A Map Editor is also included, letting players build and share their own scenarios within the game.

The story gives you a choice. You can stay loyal and crush the peasant rebellion, or you can join their cause against the king. The road is long either way. Along the way, you will meet the Sarranga, a mysterious tribe, and face the Undead, who are described as worshippers of hard-rock music.

The game is built around managing pressure from all sides at once. Armies, resources, fortifications, and magic must all work together. Letting one area fall behind can cost you the entire battle. The scale of enemy attacks makes every decision about where to build and what to prioritize matter greatly.
