Astro Fighters 2 is a vertical scrolling bullet hell shooter set in space. Ten years after the events of the first game, the alien force that was defeated has re-armed and is back for revenge. The player is brought out of retirement to fight off the alien invasion and protect the planet’s resources from being taken.

Players choose from 3 ships, each with a different fire configuration. During gameplay, over 15 special collectable items can be picked up and deployed at will. The game has twin special item slots that can be swapped during combat. Players build up a Graze Points gauge by skimming past enemy bullets and collecting medals. Graze Points can then be spent to fire a special spread shot, drop bombs that cut through enemy fire, or slow down time for more precise movement through tight bullet patterns.

Astro Fighters 2 has 4 difficulty modes, with harder modes giving higher score bonuses. An unlockable Gauntlet Mode becomes available after completing Level 3 on Normal Mode. Gauntlet Mode is a procedurally generated endless mode. Higher difficulty modes are unlocked by completing the game.

The game supports both single-player and two-player local co-op, as well as Remote Play Together. Steam online high score tables are included, along with 70 Steam Achievements and Family Sharing.
