Crowns and Pawns: Kingdom of Deceit is a modern-day point-and-click adventure game set across real-life locations in Europe. The player controls Milda, a girl from Chicago who unexpectedly inherits a house in Lithuania from her grandfather. Upon arriving in Europe, she is threatened by an unknown man demanding she give up the inheritance. Inside the run-down house, she discovers old documents and clues that date back to the 15th century, which pull her into a search for a long-lost cursed relic connected to the King who was never crowned.

The game is inspired by classic point-and-click titles such as Broken Sword, The Curse of Monkey Island, Still Life, and Syberia. The art director of the fan-adventure Broken Sword 2.5 led the visual direction of the game. The music was composed by Daniel Pharos, an award-winning composer who has previously worked on A New Beginning, Memoria, and Blackguards. Charles Cecil, creator of the Broken Sword series, and Bill Tiller, artist of The Curse of Monkey Island, both praised the game before its release.

The story connects the history and legends of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania with a modern-day conspiracy involving a villainous branch of the KGB. The game visits real locations across Europe as the mystery unfolds. The entire dialogue in the game is fully voiced. The world reacts to the player’s decisions at different points in the story.

Puzzles in the game involve finding items hidden in painted environments, combining inventory items in creative ways, and selecting from dialogue options during conversations. Players can also change Milda’s clothes and appearance to move past certain obstacles or simply for personal preference. The game supports both mouse and gamepad controls, and the control layout is specifically adapted for both input methods. It is a single-player game and includes 31 Steam Achievements. A separate Soundtrack DLC is also available, containing the music composed by Daniel Pharos.
