Evil Dead: The Game is a multiplayer action game where players take on the role of Ash Williams or other characters from the Evil Dead franchise, drawn from all three original Evil Dead films and the STARZ original Ash vs Evil Dead television series. The game features new dialogue performed by Bruce Campbell and other cast members from the franchise. It supports cross-platform multiplayer and can be played in online co-op or online PvP.

The core multiplayer mode places four survivors against a fifth player who controls the Kandarian Demon. The four survivors must explore the map, loot supplies, manage their fear level, and find key items to seal the breach between worlds before the Demon kills them all. The Kandarian Demon player can fly across the map, possess Deadite enemies, and take control of environmental objects on the battlefield. The game includes physics-based gore, so cutting a Deadite in two with Ash’s chainsaw arm produces visible in-game results.

Survivor characters are divided into specific classes, and playable characters include Ash Williams, Scotty, Lord Arthur, Kelly Maxwell, and others from across the Evil Dead universe. Weapons available to survivors include Ash’s double-barrel shotgun, his chainsaw arm attachment, cleavers, and other melee and ranged weapons. The game also features a separate battle royale mode called Splatter Royale, which supports up to 40 players. In Splatter Royale, players choose Deadite versions of any survivor or demon character from the game and fight until only one player remains.

The Game of the Year Edition includes content from six DLC packs. It adds five extra survivor characters: David, Mia, The Blacksmith, Ruby, and Brock. A new demon called Schemer is also included, with Baal as the demon boss for that class. The GOTY Edition also contains numerous cosmetic outfits such as the Ash S-Mart Uniform, the Ash Gallant Knight Outfit, the Ash Savini Alternate Outfit, the Puppeteer Demon King of the White Frost Costume Pack, and the Warlord Demon Firefighter-Themed Costume Pack, among others.
