Utawarerumono: Past and Present Rediscovered is a JRPG that takes players into the expansive lands of Yamato. The game follows Oshtor and his allies as they embark on a new adventure, facing a shadow that looms over the nation. The story unfolds with the return of the Action Ring system, which integrates tempo and strategy into the battles. Players will encounter a rich cast of characters, including fan favorites from the Utawarerumono series.

The narrative is set in the mighty empire of Yamato, ruled by the god incarnate, the Mikado. Heroes like Oshtor, Mikazuchi, Munechika, and Shunya have previously defended the land from an invasion originating from Arva Shulan. As monsters rise across Yamato, these heroes must respond to the impending threat while old comrades come together to face the challenges ahead. The game hints at a legendary tale, with white mists and a long slumber nearing its end.

Oshtor, voiced by Kentaro Tone, hails from the frontier province of Ennakamuy. He has been appointed as the Imperial Guard of the Right, wearing a mask inherited from his fallen master, Dikotoma. Shunya, voiced by Yuko Minaguchi, is from the distant land of Arva Shulan and is recuperating in the mountains of Ennakamuy. Munechika, voiced by Saori Hayami, is the daughter of Izumo’s viceroy, Murasame, and conceals a warrior’s spirit beneath her demure appearance.

Mikazuchi, voiced by Yuya Uchida, comes from Ashiwara, the City of Squalls, and serves as the Imperial Guard of the Left. He wears a mask passed down from his legendary ancestor. The game features contributions from notable creators like Naoya Shimokawa as the Producer and Music Director, and Munemitsu Suga for the concept and story. Character designs are crafted by MI, with original designs by Tatsuki Amaduya and Misato Mitsumi.
