Farlight Commanders is set in a galaxy where life has become increasingly difficult. The discovery of a rich mineral near the galaxy’s core led a corporation to seize control of numerous planets. This resulted in years of war, with the corporation now dominating over half of the galaxy. Exploiting the planets with tyranny, they have pushed the council to the galaxy’s borders.

In response to the corporation’s dominance, the council is planning a counterattack. Using old war spaceships, they aim to force a truce. Players can team up to command one of these spaceships, cooperating with up to four friends. Each player takes on a unique role: Commander, Soldier, Medic, or Technician. This teamwork is crucial as players navigate space battles and repair their spaceship to prevent total destruction.

The Cantharis, a destroyer class spaceship, plays a significant role in the game. It was used in the first war against the corporation, where the original Farlight Explorers colonists succeeded in destroying the Singularity Gate. Although considered obsolete now, the Cantharis offers the best balance and is cost-effective to produce. It features four main stations, each integral to the players’ mission.

During gameplay, players must manage the spaceship’s various stations, ensuring they remain operational amidst battles. The game requires strategic coordination among players to address damage and maintain the spaceship’s functionality. This cooperative element is central to overcoming the challenges posed by the corporation’s forces.
