A guide called The Voice speaks to the player and tries to help uncover who they truly are. The player also has dissociative identity disorder, which means other voices may appear and cause confusion.

The game runs on strict rules that the player must follow at all times. If any voice other than The Voice is heard, the player must ignore it. If a non-human being appears, the player must not look at it, no matter what it does. If there is any sign of life moving nearby, the player must turn back and press a red button right away. After finishing a task, the player must press a blue button and leave without waiting.

Obey the Voice is built around pressure and constant threat. The player receives high-pressure tasks from The Voice and must complete them carefully. Attention, timing, and quick decision-making are very important here. There is no safe space in this game. Any mistake is punished immediately without delay.
