Ys X: Proud Nordics – Ultimate Edition is an action role-playing game. The story follows Adol Christin, a young red-haired adventurer who arrives in the Obelia Gulf. There he meets Karja Balta, a proud Nordic warrior. The two are forced to work together and sail across the sea while facing many dangers along the way.

The game features a dual character combat system where players can switch between Adol and Karja during battle. Adol fights using his sword in close combat, while Karja uses a large anchor weapon with powerful wide-range attacks. Players can also combine both characters to perform special combined attacks called Masens, which deal heavy damage to enemies.

The game includes a ship called the Sandras. Players can sail this ship across the open sea, explore islands, and battle enemy ships. Naval combat is also a part of the gameplay, adding a new style of action to the series.
